Looking Good, Getting Elected?

The presidential debate turned out to be a bit of a disappointment, with neither candidate going beyond their talking points, but there was one thing of note: Obama was looking pretty sharp in that suit.

There’s a line in an old David Bowie song that goes, and the papers want to know who’s shirt you wear… People want to know those things. Celebrities and other public figures have the ability to start a fashion trend merely by what they wear. And don’t think that ‘s an accident. Top of the luminaries of the fashion design industry are sought out create a specific persona. Does anybody remember the fashion explosion Madonna set off in the ‘80’s? The valley girl look was all the rage.
From the actual design of clothing and accessories to illustrator to stylist and beyond, the fashion industry has left and indelible mark on America. Sure, there are some that don’t care-or do they? Politicians, rappers, rockers, even gangsters identify with a certain look. None of the afore-mentioned groups would want to be seen in a I’m With Stupid t-shirt. Indeed.

Well, I won’t go as far as saying that fashion will have an effect on the outcome of the presidential election, but I will say that fashion did play a role in every job interview I ever had.
